Tim Fruge

ABOUT TIM FRUGE

I learned operations by doing the work.

I started close to the customer and grew into responsibility for the people, systems, products, and decisions behind the business.

01 / THE PATH

Experience built from the inside out.

Timothy “Tim” Fruge is an operations executive and general manager based in Austin, Texas. I did not begin my career with a broad title or a polished view of how a company should operate. I began in customer service and fulfillment. That taught me how decisions made in one part of a company show up somewhere else, usually for the customer or the people doing the work.

Over time, my responsibility expanded across ecommerce, product development, purchasing, customer service, IT, fulfillment, management, and P&L. I advanced to Director of Operations while the business grew from approximately $2M to approximately $80M in annual revenue.

I have worked inside growth, not just studied it. I know what it looks like when demand moves faster than the systems behind it, when too many decisions depend on one person, and when a problem crosses several departments even though everyone is treating it like it belongs to only one.

02 / OPERATING RANGE

The wider view came from doing different parts of the work.

The value of broad experience is not knowing everything. It is understanding how the pieces affect one another and knowing where to ask better questions.

01

Front line

Customer service, fulfillment, and the work closest to the customer.

02

Across functions

Ecommerce, products, purchasing, customer service, IT, and fulfillment.

03

At scale

Management structure, systems, operating measures, and cross-functional decisions.

03 / HOW I WORK

Understand the problem before trying to sound certain.

I ask questions, pay attention to what is not working, and bring in people who know more than I do. Once I understand the problem, I am comfortable making a decision and taking responsibility for the result.

THE WORK

The clearest picture comes from the decisions themselves.
